JR. COMETS ANNOUNCE GARTH GRAY AS 15U HEAD COACH
The Utica Jr. Comets are proud to announce Garth Gray as the head coach for the 15U split-season AAA team. Entering his fifth year of coaching, Garth has coached at the 15U, 16U, 18U and high school hockey level. He will become another non-parent head coach for the Jr. Comet organization.
Growing up in the Syracuse area, Garth was a defensemen and trusted leader throughout his hockey career. He played junior hockey for the former Syracuse Stars where he amassed over 130 junior games between the EmJHL and the USPHL. He also served as the assistant captain for the team his final season.
A recent graduate of LeMoyne University, Garth has always had a passion for hockey and that passion has transitioned him into coaching. He began coaching high school hockey in 2016 and still coaches at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. Gray has also coached at the 15U, 16U and 18U levels over the past three seasons. He is also a certified personal trainer and enjoys working with his players off the ice as well to develop stronger athletes.
“I am excited to join the Jr. Comets organization and be a part of a great development platform for players,” said Gray. “I look forward to working with the other coaches in the organization, the players coming up, and the players coming in to continue the success in the USPHL that the 15U team had last year.”
“We are extremely excited to add Gary to our coaching staff and have him lead the 15U team,” said Tony Martino, Jr. Comets president. “He has experience coaching this age group and is excited to work with players and help them reach their hockey goals.”
The 15U Jr. Comets will be a soft split season team based out of Syracuse, NY. They will compete in the USPHL for the 2020-21 season, as well as be a Tier 1 National Tournament bound team. For more information and to register for tryouts for this team visit: www.uticajrcomets.org .
