JR. COMETS ANNOUNCE CHRIS FLYNN AS 2011 HEAD COACH

by Nick Mecca

The Utica Jr. Comets are excited to announce Chris Flynn as the Head Coach of the 2011 AAA team. Chris, originally born and raised in Whitesboro is returning to the area after living in Las Vegas, Nevada. After graduating from Suny Oswego, Chris pursued a job opportunity in Las Vegas. While there, Chris jumped on board with the Vegas Golden Knights youth program as his passion for hockey continued even in a city brand new to hockey. He will become another non-parent head coach for the Jr. Comet Organization.

Chris played his youth hockey for Whitestown before playing on the Whitesboro High School team as well as playing Juniors for the Syracuse Stars. While pursuing his degree at Suny Oswego, Chris played on the club hockey team that competed in the ACHA. Throughout his career, Chris competed in the Empire State Games, winning a gold medal for Central Section. He also took part in the New York State Development camps.

As everyone knows in the Hockey world, The NHL Golden Knights quickly took over the city of Vegas and in turn the youth hockey program has grown at an exponential rate. Chris’s passion for hockey and eagerness to stay in the game he loved, quickly drove him to lend a hand with the VGK youth organization. Over the last three years, Chris has coached at the PeeWee and Mite Level as well as helping the Learn to Play/Learn to skate program.

“I’m very excited to return back home to the Utica area and be able to continue coaching youth hockey, especially at such a high level. It has been very fulfilling teaching young kids the game I love in a city that is very new to the sport. I look forward to developing each and every player and being a part of a great organization.” Flynn says.

“We are pleased and excited to add Chris to the Jr. Comets coaching staff” Said Tony Martino, Jr. Comets president. “Chris adds yet another non-parent head coach to our organization, as well as bringing experience in coaching younger players.”
