SAM TECHEL COMMITS TO PLAY COLLEGE HOCKEY
Utica Junior Comet Sam Techel has committed to play college hockey at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. A native of the Badger State, Techel has played three seasons in Utica. This year he has racked up 21 points on 5 goals and 16 assists in 39 games.
“My three years in Utica have helped me grow as player and a person,” Techel said. “We have great facilities along with a great rink and staff to help the players get everything we need. I feel lucky to be able to have spent my last year of juniors here in Utica.”
Junior Comets Coach Louis Educate says it has been great to see Sam develop over his three years, “He has always carried himself in such a way that others can look up to him. Sammy has been the heartbeat of our team this year exemplifying the hard work and dedication that goes into being a Junior Hockey player. He has been the perfect Captain for this team as all his positive qualities have rubbed off on all of his teammates.
“I am very excited for next season at UW Eau Claire,” Techel commented. “Where I’ll be able to play with my brothers and be closer to home! I couldn’t have gotten there without the help of my family, friends, and coaches! Eau Claire has got a great campus and rink as well, I’m really looking forward to getting there and to start working.”
Educate continued, “I’m very excited to follow Sammy’s college career. He will be joining his brothers there which will make for a very exciting year for him and his family. I know he will continue to grow and develop under Eau Claire’s great program.”
