Coach Nick Mendiola is entering his third season with the Utica Jr. Comets. Mendiola was part of the inaugural year of Utica girls hockey at the 14U level and this year led the 16U team to a section title and a State tournament appearance. Nick brings nearly a decade of coaching experience to the organization and has spent the last several years coaching girls hockey from 8U through 16U. He is a Rome, NY native and graduate of Rome Free Academy. Mendiola was a standout defenseman at Potsdam where he played three seasons. Prior to Potsdam, Mendiola played at Canton and helped lead his team to a National Championship. Mendiola has also played internationally in Germany and the Netherlands.
Utica, NY - The Utica Jr. Comets and Mohawk Valley Garden announced today that Kevin Conley has been named the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Jr. Comets and Utica City Football Club.
Utica, NY - The Utica Jr. Comets and Mohawk Valley Garden announced today that Kevin Conley has been named the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Jr. Comets and Utica City Football Club.
The Utica native holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from SUNY Cortland, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is a Certified Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach.
Conley will train every team within the Jr. Comets organization, and offer additional training and nutritional services for any athletes that strive to maximize their potential. All training will take place at the Utica University Nexus Center.
“We couldn’t be happier to add Kevin to our staff and continue with our commitment to develop elite athletes," Said MVG President and CEO Robert Esche. "With Kevin’s knowledge & experience coupled with The Utica University Nexus Center’s amazing training center, we are creating a true ecosystem for athlete development and first of its kind in the region."
Prior to joining the organization, Conley worked at Upstate Empire Fitness for the last 5 years as a personal trainer and wellness coach. He has worked with athletes, injured individuals or individuals needing strengthening post-injury, and the special needs community. He has also competed in high-level bodybuilding events.
Conley is thrilled to be joining the organization, “Through my experiences and insights, I hope to inspire and educate these athletes on the importance of fitness and how it can improve their sport, favorite activities, and lives.”
